The exhibition "Bakhmut. Faces of the Genocide of 1942/2022" ended on 31 August with a musical memorial ritual performed by the famous Ukrainian pianist Yevhen Hromov.
The musicians performed pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Peter Schubert, Claude Debussy, Borys Liatoshynsky, Valentyn Silvestrov, and Vitaliy Godzyatsky to commemorate all the victims of genocide past and present.
Representatives of the diplomatic missions of the United States, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland, Norway, Turkey, India, and Libya visited the exhibition and joined the musical and memorial ritual.
During the event, Deputy Foreign Minister Yevhen Perebyinis thanked all the countries that support Ukraine in its fight against the Russian invasion: "By honouring the memory of the victims of the Russian genocide in Ukraine, we thank all those who help us to survive and win. Therefore, this exhibition is also about hope and faith that the civilised world will have enough wisdom, foresight and courage to prevent totalitarian regimes from committing such crimes."
The head of the Babyn Yar State Reserve, Roza Tapanova, noted that the institution implements art projects to engage the widest possible audience in living memory: "During the month of the exhibition, we have seen how great the demand for historical truth is in our society. That is why we are working to become one of the all-Ukrainian centres for the restoration and preservation of memory. We are changing our approach to dealing with the tragic pages of our history, speaking the language of art. We want to engage as many children and young people as possible with events like this exhibition."
